Pastor's  Message

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus,

Here in New Orleans, we are very familiar with Epiphany, though we know it better as Carnival.  However, the revelations we might get at Mardi Gras are very different from those we receive during this particular season of the church year.  The Gospel readings every Sunday in Epiphany reveal Jesus to us as He is: both true God and true man.  In the visit of the wise men, His baptism in the Jordan, the calling of the disciples, and His Transfiguration, Christ is presented to us in His humanity, His divine power, and His divine mercy.

Green is the liturgical color of Epiphany.  Rev. Douglas K. Escue, in his essay "The Colors of the Liturgical Seasons" writes, "Epiphany's message of Christ's revelation to the Gentiles along with the season's traditional emphasis on extending Christ's kingdom through missions, calls for the use of green- the color symbolic of growth." The color present throughout Epiphany should remind us to grow, as well - both in our faith as individual Christians, and in our ministry as the Church.

In Christ,

Pastor Ken Babin

You will find that we are a loving and welcoming congregation!  We gather each week to hear of God’s love, grace and forgiveness for us through His Son Jesus Christ.  Strengthened by His Word we go out into our daily lives to love and serve one another and the community around us.  St. John is a member church of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.  To find out more of what we believe please visit http://www.lcms.org/
