Faculty & Staff

 

Principal - B. Gonski

Ms. Gonski has served as principal of St. John for the past 14 years. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Valparaiso University in Indiana, and her Masters of Education from the University of New Orleans. Ms. Gonski has a wide range of teaching experience in both Lutheran and public schools and is proud to be a native New Orleanian. 

Pastor - Rev. K. Babin

Church/School Secretary - K. Miles   

With over 25 years experience as a school Administrative Assistant, Ms. Miles returned to her native Louisiana from St. Petersburg, Florida.  Miss Kathy joined the St. John family in February and serves both church and school.                                              

 


Teachers:
Preschool - T. Simmons

Ms. Simmons is new to our St. John Lutheran family but not new to teaching.  She graduated from Northwestern State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Child Development.  She will start working on her certification and masters degree this school year,  Mrs. Simmons has been teaching for over 7 years and has a strong passion for early childhood education.

Pre-Kindergarten - J. Dumas

Ms. Dumas was born and raised here in New Orleans.  She received her Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications and Journalism with a minor in Creative Writing from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2012.  She has been teaching Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten for 5 years in both private and charter schools.  In her down time, she loves to write and spend quality time with her family.

Kindergarten - P. Wood

Ms. Wood attended Concordia University in Austin, Texas and Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education/Early Childhood. She has been teaching for over 35 years and loves teaching kindergarten. Ms. Wood has two married children and three grandchildren!

First Grade - J. Calderone

Mrs. Calderone attended SLU where she received her Bachelor's degree.  She received her certification in Early Childhood Education through Tulane.  This is her eleventh year teaching, and her third year at St. John.  Although she has experience teaching several grades, First Grade is her favorite.

Second Grade - S. Koester

Miss Koester graduated from Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. After teaching for two years in Okarche, Oklahoma, she accepted a position at St. Paul-First English Lutheran School in New Orleans where she taught for 37 years. She has taught various grade levels ranging from Kindergarten to Sixth Grade. She is delighted to be a part of the St. John family.

Third Grade - M. Montgomery

Mrs. Montgomery attended Southeastern Louisiana University where she received her bachelor's degree and later received her certification through Holy Cross University.  A true New Orleanian,, Mrs. Montgomery has been teaching in area parochial schools for over 10 years.  She is delighted to be a part of the St. John family.

Fourth Grade - T. Williams

Ms. Williams graduated from Collin County Community College with her Associates of Arts in Teaching and from Texas A & M Commerce with her Bachelors in General Studies and Masters in Education. She is currently working towards her teaching certification in Louisiana. She was raised in St. Charles Parish and, after living in Texas for 22 years, she has come back to continue her passion, teaching.

Fifth Grade - C. Lopez

Mr. Lopez received his Bachelor's degree in History from the University of New Orleans. He has a Master's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in K-12 leadership, both from Grand Canyon University in Arizona. This is his 14th year in teaching. Mr. Lopez' last assignment was at St. Paul Lutheran as the Athletic Director, coach of the basketball and football teams, and as a middle school teacher. He is looking forward to having a great year as part of the St. John Lutheran family.

Sixth Grade - B. Mipro

Ms. Mipro graduated from UNO and has been teaching for over 30 years.  She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and is certified in Special Education and computer literacy. She previously taught Eighth Grade at St. John until Hurricane Katrina.  She rejoined our faculty last year.

Seventh Grade - J. Hanlon

Mr. Hanlon, a native New Orleanian, joined our St. John family in September.  More information about him will be posted soon.

Eighth Grade - J. Henschen

Mr. Henschen is beginning his ninth year of teaching at St. John.  After graduating from Concordia University, Nebraska, Mr. Henschen obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle Level Education.  Prior to that he completed his student-teaching in Shanghai, China!  He continues to teach math, religion, English and serve as the technology coordinator.

Substitute Teacher - L. Stibrich

 Mrs. Stibrich grew up in Chester, Illinois, where she attended St. John Lutheran School and Chester High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Concordia Teachers College (now Concordia University) in Seward, Nebraska, and her Masters of Education Degree with an emphasis in Reading Education from Loyola University in New Orleans. She has taught in Lutheran Schools in Kansas, Texas, and in the New Orleans area for over forty years. She has two sons and two grandchildren. She has a Christian puppet ministry, for which she writes and directs puppet skits that are performed in some of the Lutheran churches in the New Orleans area as well as at chapels for St. John Lutheran School. She loves being part of St. John Lutheran School's Christian family, substituting in the various grades from Kindergarten through Seventh Grade, organizing "Lutheran Group Nights" for Pelicans games, and working with the Sixth and Seventh graders to present puppet skits for chapels twice a year.
